Are you ready for Value-Based Purchasing?
The Affordable Care Act requires CMS to establish a new Hospital Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) Program that rewards hospitals for providing high quality, safe care to patients. Under the CMS proposed FY 2013 Hospital VBP Program, hospitals that perform well or make improvements on quality measures relating to clinical process of care and patient experience of care would receive higher payments.
The program began July 1, 2011. During this first year of the program, CMS will reduce the base diagnosis-related group (DRG) payment for PPS hospitals by 1%, then redistribute that 1% among the same hospitals—according to how they performed on 12 process of care measures and eight patient experience measures (HCAHPS survey dimensions).
CMS will post the incentive payment estimates to hospitals' QualityNet accounts no later than 8/12/12 and notify hospitals of the exact amounts by 11/1/12.
